Dark Shark Nebula (LDN 1235)

July 7 - 8, 2024 (Cherry Springs, PA)

LDN 1235, also known as the Dark Shark Nebula, is a real dark nebula located in the constellation Cepheus. It appears as a dense, dark cloud of interstellar dust and gas that obscures the light from background stars. Its distinctive shape resembles a shark swimming through space, hence its nickname. LDN 1235 is an active area of star formation, where the dense material may eventually collapse under gravity to form new stars.
